Why Mindtrust

Our mission is to advance leadership excellence by creating opportunities to learn together, share experiences and build lifelong relationships.

Mindtrust Leadership Development Program

The Mindtrust Leadership Development Program was launched in 2005 in partnership
with the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University and the Telfer School of Management at University of Ottawa for 60 fourth-year students. Algonquin College joined the program in 2015 increasing the number of participants to 75 each year. This program has been running each winter term for the past 17 years with more than 1,000 alumni. The program consists of seven workshop sessions led by highly experienced leadership educators. Each session includes a number of community and business leaders to “make it real” for the participants.

Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

In 2020, Mindtrust launched a new youth program for leadership development (YLP) for young aspiring leaders between 17 and 29 years old. This program is now being offered on-line with a focus on youth from racialized and disadvantaged communities in Canada.

Leadership Drinks

Mindtrust Leadership Drinks was launched as a quarterly networking event to bring together MLDP alumni and community and business leaders to explore opportunities to advance the state of leadership development in the national capital region. Leadership Drinks has been suspended until the COVID-19 vaccination program has been deployed. Current target for re-launch is September 2021.

Fellowship

In 2017, Mindtrust launched an annual nine-month Fellowship program that offers from one to four young leaders the opportunity to continue their leadership development journey while getting some valuable experience working in the community in delivery of Mindtrust programs. This program will start again in early 2022.

Applications for Youth Leadership Program open

The Youth Leadership Program (YLP) builds on the 17-year history of the successful Mindtrust Leadership Development Program (MLDP). YLP is responding to the need to develop next generation leaders. This program is intended for young, impact-driven, and demonstrated leaders with an interest in the future of leadership.

2021 YLP will be delivered from April to May, 2021, for 15 to 20 young people in collaboration with Youth Ottawa and other local community organizations.

History

Mindtrust was launched as a membership organization in 2001 to help develop the depth and breadth of leadership capability in the national capital region. In 2005, the Mindtrust Leadership Development Program (MLDP) was developed to focus top students on their leadership journey – where they are now, where they want to be and what they can learn from what others have experienced on their journey. The program was created because the Mindtrust founders were aware that it takes effort and focus to be a great leader and that MLDP could give participants an early boost on their journey. MLDP has been delivered in partnership between Mindtrust, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa annually since 2005 with Algonquin College students participating since 2016. More than 1,000 students have graduated from the program to date. Mindtrust was incorporated as a not for profit corporation in 2016 to create a financially sustainable leadership development organization and was granted charitable status in 2020.
